Artist Info
Meagan Streader works with light and space, predominantly in sculpture and installation. In her art practice she manipulates, re‑ interprets and extends upon the existing boundaries of constructed spaces, with her site-specific interventions changing the viewer’s relationship with the surrounding architecture and sense of scale. It’s in this way that her work reveals and interrogates the pervasive role of light in the way we experience fabricated spaces.
Sky whispers, 2023, transforms a section of The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia into an immersive installation made from light tape. The lines and shapes reference the light phenomena glimpsed in the fractal geometry of the building’s facade. Sky whispers simultaneously sympathises with the building’s architecture though line and shape, and responds to the various ways light enters into and is refracted across the gallery spaces and voids. Streader offers a way to experience this architecture that is momentary, emotional and affective.
